On August 29th, 1898, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was established by the visionary entrepreneur, Frank A. Seiberling. At the age of 38, Frank founded Goodyear with a resolute vision to create high-quality tires that would not only meet the demands of the emerging automotive industry but also drive innovation and excellence.

The Founder's Vision: Born in Ohio in 1859, Seiberling possessed an innate entrepreneurial spirit that led him to explore and seize opportunities beyond the ordinary. After college, his journey included a diversity of roles that prepared him for the challenge ahead of him. As a legal clerk, he gained insights into the legal field and administrative processes, honing skills in organization and documentation. His work in a grocery store exposed him to retail operations and inventory management, skills that later proved valuable in entrepreneurship. Seiberling's time as a newspaper reporter developed his communication abilities, while his role as a sales representative enhanced his interpersonal skills. His venture as a coal merchant showcased his entrepreneurial spirit and understanding of supply chain management. Additionally, his investment in a manufacturing plant provided exposure to product development and quality control.

Seiberling's journey with Goodyear began when he purchased a manufacturing plant in Akron, Ohio, with a down payment of $3,500. This pivotal decision marked the birth of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Seiberling's belief in the potential of rubber products, coupled with his determination, set the stage for a transformative enterprise. To bring his vision to life, Seiberling turned to his brother-in-law, Lucius C. Miles, for financial support. Borrowing money from Miles, Seiberling secured the funds needed to establish the company and acquire the plant.
